About Dublin..
Dublin is the Capital City of Ireland and has a population of just over 1.1 million. It is a city of great antiquity, with a history spanning more that one thousand years. Situated at the mouth of the river Liffey, Dublin began as a Viking settlement. The city celebrated its 1000th birthday in 1988 and was designated European City of Culture in 1991.
In recent times, Dublin has become one of the most popular destinations for holidaymakers in Europe. It has so much to offer the visitor. In the last decade, there has been an economic boom that has changed the city dramatically, breathing new life into many of it's previously dilapidated historical areas. The city is now one of most vibrant in world, joining the likes of New York, London and Paris, as a capital of culture and commerce. It is famous for its fashionable shopping areas, its wide range of events and festivals, theatres, pubs, restaurants and tourist attractions.
Just half an hour from the city centre there are mountain walks, scenic coastlines and beautiful beaches. Dublin is a city alive with culture and all the trappings of modern life, from shopping areas like Grafton Street, to the wide-open space of the Phoenix Park, to the splendour of it's many museums and landmarks; the city has something for everyone.
The weather in Dublin is mostly mild, but rain is common at all year round. Temperatures range from 16-20°C / 60-67°F, in summer, and from 4-7°C / 39-44°F, in winter. English is the main language of the city. The currency is the Euro (€). Dublin is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
