Temple Bar..
Often referred to as Dublin's Cultural Quarter, Temple Bar is home to some of Dublin's finest galleries, theatres, cafes, nightspots, restaurants, hotels, pubs and shops. It's trademark pedestrian, narrow cobbled streets date back to the 19th century. The recent restoration and development of Temple Bar transformed this part of Dublin into a neighbourhood of history, culture, dining and nightlife. The area runs from Fishamble Street (near Christ Church) to Westmorland Street, between Dame Street and the River Liffey.
The area boasts a number of public squares, including Meeting House Square, an open-air performance space that screens films, shows large slide exhibitions and plays host to concerts. The nearby Irish Film Institute shows some of the finest Art House and independent films from all over the world. The square is also home to the Gallery of Photography and The National Photographic Archive. The Ark, Europe's first custom built cultural centre for children, can be found just off the square, and is well worth a visit.
The Temple bar area is ever-growing and is now home to a population of over 2,500 residents, 500 businesses and more than 50 cultural organisations. The area prides itself on its small businesses: with its Book Fair and Food Market at the weekends; its eclectic array of shops, restaurants and cafes; its well-maintained public spaces; Temple Bar is home to some of Dublin's most unique sights and sounds and offers many options for those seeking accommodation, shopping, eating out and socialising.
