Cork Golf Course is located just 6 miles from Cork city, near Little Island. Lough Mahon, which forms the estuary of the River Lee, Cork's main river, provides the scenic backdrop for much of this splendid parkland course. First opened in 1888, the club has a long and proud history. It was completely redesigned in 1927 by Alister Mackenzie, one of the most renowned golf architects in the world. (His credits include Augusta National, Cypress Point and Royal Melbourne.)
Located in Cork Harbour, the course is an 18-hole, par 72, measuring some 6731 yards in length from the championship tees, and offers a challenging round to golfers of all levels. The club has played host to some of Ireland's most important amateur and professional tournaments, including: the Carroll's Irish Open, the Irish Professional Championships and the National Finals. The management prides itself on the impeccable upkeep of its course, which is playable all year round.
The clubhouse at Cork Golf Club was awarded the AIB Golf Club of the Year award for Best Clubhouse Presentation in 1994 and will not disappoint any visitor with its service and facilities. There is a full bar and magnificent restaurant on-site, as well as spacious changing room facilities and a pro shop. Clubs, carts and trolleys are all available for rental and visitors can avail of tuition form the club's resident professional, Peter Hickey. The club also has a well-kept putting green.
