Waterford is a charming county on the south coast of Ireland. The county is located in the province of Munster, and it is home to a population of almost 113,250 inhabitants. This historic county is traditionally known as An Deise, as between the 4th and 8th centuries it was inhabited by a tribe known as the Deisi. Some popular destinations within the county include Lismore Castle, the seaside towns of Ardmore and Tramore, and of course the bustling, friendly city of Waterford.

The picturesque town of Lismore is worth stopping off in if you’re travelling through the southeast of Ireland. This charming town is located on the banks of the Blackwater River in County Waterford, and it is overlooked by the spectacular Lismore Castle. The castle was built in 1185 and renovated in the 19th century. The grounds of the castle are open to the public, and they boast a stunning walking trail along the river. The town of Lismore also boasts the fascinating Lismore Heritage Centre, as well as the lovely Cathedral of St Carthage, which features Gothic architecture and stunning stained-glass windows. As Ireland’s oldest city, Waterford has plenty of delightful sites to offer visitors, and a trip to the impressive Waterford Crystal Factory is certainly a highlight. The factory was founded in 1783 and it is situated 2.5km outside the city. Visitors can watch as stunning crystal is produced before them, and they can marvel at the impressive skills of the glass blowers. The factory also boasts a beautiful showroom – the centrepiece of which is a magnificent crystal chandelier. The Faithlegg House Hotel is the only hotel in Faithlegg yet it is hard to imagine how any other hotel could surpass it for quality. Recently renovated the hotel is now at its best. Sixty-eight rooms are available in this 18th century former mansion. Its spa, leisure and conference facilities are first class. Many visit, though, for the 18-hole championship golf course which it overlooks.

Rhu Glenn Country Club Hotel combines the intimacy of a small hotel with a sense of luxury. One of its best features is its live entertainment which is held four nights a week. All rooms are en-suite and the hotel has been given a three star rating. The Rhu Glenn Country Club Hotel maybe the only Slieverue hotel but the town itself does have much to offer. It is located just five minutes away from Waterford City and has some great historical features such as the architecture of its Catholic Church.

Ardmore Hotels
Hotels in Ardmore are limited to just the one, the Round Tower Hotel. Set within beautiful gardens this is a mansion style accommodation with modern facilities. A small hotel with only 12 rooms you are guaranteed personal service with a smile. Check well in advance for availability.
Ardmore’s greatest attraction is Ardmore Bay and its beautiful beach. A simple town it is the perfect spot for getting away from it all.

If you are looking for a Dungarvan hotel you are looking for the Park Hotel. Recently built is has 29 rooms and every modern luxury. Ideally located its views are beautiful and compensate for the lack of hotels in Dungarvan.
Dungarvan is a small port town about 30 miles from Waterford City. Particularly pleasant in the summer months fishing and golf enthusiasts flock here every year. As west Waterford’s main town it has a good nightlife with a variety of restaurants. See Hotels in Waterford for a full list of hotels.

Ballinakill hotels total just the one, the Waterford Castle Hotel. But what a hotel! Located on its own island, this fantastic place compensates for the lack of hotels in Ballinakill. Originally a 15th century castle it sports its own golf course and magnificent suites.If staying in such luxurious accommodation it is unlikely you will want to stray too far, everything you could possibly require is right here from historic surrounds to wooded backdrop.

Three star quality, this Lismore Hotel is the perfect setting from which to explore a town which depends so much on its history for its atmosphere and attractions. Lismore is now a heritage town and two must-sees in the area are the Lismore Castle and the heritage centre. Golf and fishing are also hugely popular for locals and visitors alike.

Tramore hotels are hospitable and of good quality, reflective of one of Waterford’s most popular towns. The hotels in Tramore cater to the needs of visitors to the town. Its three hotels are centrally located making exploration easy while the accommodation itself is family-run and friendly. Tramore Bay’s famous sandy beaches are only minutes away too.
Tramore is located south of Waterford City. It is the laid-back alternative to visiting the city and has the relaxed attitude one would expect of a seaside town.

County Waterford Ireland is located in the South East of Ireland. The main town is Waterford City. Dunmore East, Tramore and Dungarvan are the county's other main towns.
